This is my dried fish. I've had it for about 12yrs and the guy I bought it off I think had it for about 5yrs. I paid him $20 for it.
I've loved this fish since the day I saw it but I still dont know really anything about it.
I made the stand out of swamp kauri NZ hardwood.
It sits in my parents pub and gets plenty of attention, but still no identification.

i recon its one of those freaky mega deep sea cretures from the bottom of the sea.
Never seen anything like that !! I think you got a great buy at twenty dollars. The mystery alone is worth much more than that !!!!!!!!

I am in no way an expert in this field but I do think you should get in touch with someone who is! To me, just an observer, I feel it may be in transition to another form of creature! The look of the eye that I can see is unusual! I may be wrong on this, but just to be sure what you have here, I think you should send photos to and talk to an expert in this field ! This hasnt been seen by a fish expert but has been seen by so many people yet still no one knows what it is, I almost sold it once to a couple that wanted it for on thier yacht as a talking point, but I couldnt do it.
It looks to me like some potentially big fish was turning from a baby tadpole to an adult or something, and died?
