Posting these as a follow up to the earlier post of the stooking photos.
First picture was taken at a neighbours place in the late 40's it shows the complete operation with the tractor supplying power via a long belt, the threshing machine, granaries to store the grain ( note ladder, as the bin filled someone would go inside the bin & push the grain up to the rafters until it wouldn't hold any more ) Also there is a wagon along side with a man throwing sheaves or bundles into the feeder. This had to be done correctly, the heads had to go in first to thresh properly. Sometimes a sheaf would end up crossways in the feeder & this would plug the cylinder shutting down the operation. If you did it once you could rest for a few minutes, but if you did it to many times you sent packin. At the far left of the picture is the straw stack, it was built with a blower on the end of the threshing machine.
Second picture is a close up view of the feeding of the thresher.

Though country work ids hard work, I sure loved doing it. This picture makes me very nostalgic for a time when we depended on crops for survival, and worked so hard, and , as I've said before, slept so well. "Green Acres is the place for me...", love these old shots. thank you, Mich
