This is a Dick Tracy hand puppet made by Ideal in 1961. The back of his neck says 1961 CHIC TRIB NY DAILY NEWS SYND. He has a rubber head and a cloth body. He is wearing his signature two way wrist radio. Although the comic strip debuted in 1931, the two way wrist radio did not appear until 1946, but became an iconic device frequently associated with Dick Tracy. The comic strip ran until 1977. I don't have much information specifically about this item, only what is printed on the back of his neck. Any additional information out there?

very nice!! Chester Gould created and drew Dick Tracy, as I am sure you know. I met him in the 1960,s and he autographed a postcard for me. He also drew a likeness of Dick Tracy on it for me. He died in Woodstock, Illinois, and that is where I met him. He used to frequent a restaurant that my uncle was the book keeper for in Woodstock.
Great story!
Here is one that just sold . Great piece !! Thanks for sharing him

I am showing my age, but I received this puppet for my 4th bday. I had Dick and I believe "Mumbles". The cloth bodies were pretty chintzy from what I remember, and soon the dog ate (well I cannot actually write that as it would not sound nice). Let's just say Dick lost his head.
