Another chainmail visor, late WW1 on a British helmet, this one spring loaded, so it could be easily brought down over the face in a hurry.

Woah, tiny images. These helmets with the visor are really neat, I'd love to see the full size images.

Great new pictures! Thank you. What happened to the paint in the first picture, graffiti?

The paint is worn where the visor flips up against the helmet

Oh, that's kinda neat then. I thought it looked like someone went at it with sandpaper. Really isn't that far from the truth given that chainmail is probably abrasive.

In WWI they used to wear chain mail visors in the tanks. The armour was basically sheets of wrought iron. When it was hit by bullets flakes of metal would spall off on the inside and fly around inside the tank. Not big enough to kill you but big enough to blind you. This must be one of those helmets. The attrition rate in tanks was incredibly high so this must be pretty rare.

Thanks for the love Trenchartman, yes the collection seems have got quiet big, without me realising, but I have been collecting for a lot of years. I will just keep posting them on here, it will be interesting to see just how many there are!
