This was a gift from my Godfather, an art Collector. He and Galen were very good friends, in fact Galen wrote the intro to my Godfather's book of Poetry. My Godfather gave me this 15 years ago, I have no idea how Mr. Rowell got this shot, it looks like he must be floating in mid-air. It is signed "Galen Rowell, 1989, AP". I have a couple of Galen's Giant Hardbacks as well, he was a visionary photographer. The Rainbow over the Tibetan Monastery is possibly one of my favorite images. Can anyone tell me about Galen Rowell, this photo, the significance of an "Artist Proof", or any other clues as to what treasure this might be? The photograph is beautifully framed and though I have seen many of Galen's prints in series of 300-1500, I think this might be a loner. Are there any photography heads in this wonderful "think tank" called CW?? I appreciate any information, Many thanks, as always, Mich

One mystery solved, I will change that, thank you hedgewalker!!Mich
very beautiful art piece, love it:)
hedgewalker, doh, it took me forever to link on your message, and le voila, AP means Artist's proof, and they even mention they were often given as gifts, as this was to my Godfather, as the were long time buds.I am curious how that effects the value? This is not like a print, it seems tp be the photo, paper and all. If this was not done in a series, could it be more valuable? I was shocked at the prices I saw on E-bay for Galen, wow, I almost bought a couple at $140, editions of 1,500, "Horsetail Falls" and another, but slapped myself silly and said, "I am trying to eliminate, not accumulate, so I retracted my bids!! But there were other photos in the thousands...I was shocked, I knew Galen and Barbara were great, but didn't know the "market" appreciated them so much. I must find out the significance of AP, and see what, exactly, that means, as the Wiki went a little over my head!! Thank you hedgewalker, I am so sorry it took this time to realize that the answer was there on the page the whole time!! YOU are a treasure, too!! Thank you so much, michelle
