This is such a wonderful and curious piece - I need assistance identifying this item. One side is red agate - the mystery is the other side...it has a clearly (appearing silver) carving of a galleon with waves beneath it - it appears like a sculpture - is completely covered with a beveled crystal. It is not a painting nor is it a reverse carving - It is very demensional.

It's a reversible intaglio fob.
If the the surface is smooth, then it could be a reverse intaglio in rock crystal.
I love the fact that it is placed on the agate in such a way to suggest the storm behind the ship, the coastline to the left and the menacing waves.
It could almost be a scene from the Odyssey, with Odysseus and his men preparing to meet the Sirens, the sea nymphs attempting to lure him and his men to their deaths with their beautiful song.
I thought of the rev erse intaglio, but it does not appear to be carved into the back of the covering crystal...it looks like an object that has been placed there and is sterling??? Very odd. Thanks for replying to me!
I love this! I don't have any knowledge of what it might actually be but just from looking at the photos, it looks as if it is reverse intaglio carved crystal with a silver leaf rubbing/mirrored finish added before it was placed over the agate. Whatever it is and however it was done it is gorgeous!
Very very nice piece....I Love this! Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
