And this is my other "Easter' egg (pic. 1) . It is not a decanter, but a 9" whole "boudoir' or ladies' liqueur set, prominently marked right in the front of the tray (pic. 2). The set consists of one tiny decanter and 6 even tinier shot glasses, some of which may carry the paper labels. (pic.3) In this set, the bottle and the two shot glasses on either side of it in pic. 4 still have them.

There are innumerable variations in the decoration of these eggs, as you can see on E-Bay and the invaluable " Czechoslovakian Collectibles" books. It also helps to know they were sold through the Butler Brothers Catalogs. An optimally desirable set is complete, with its decor in good condition, all shot glasses the same size.

You might also look for barrel decanter sets, but that is another posting . . .

My orange one also has all of the pieces, fortunately. I think you and I bought our first ones around the same time.

I would love to know more about this piece. I have a red one that my Grandmother inherited.
I asked for it when she passed away because she used to serve all the grandchildern orange Tang in it for a special treat. I would never part with it but I would love to know how old it is and where how she might have aquired it.

Snyds, these egg shaped decanters, together with barrel decanters, appear in Butler Brothers catalogs of the 1930's. They were wholesale importers of Czech glass during that period. So your decanter must be close to 85 years old.

I just LOVE this! There is a similar set at a local shop that they've had for nearly 5 years. I'm like a kid at a candystore window each time we go there, running up to see it and wishing I was willing to spend the money on it. At one time, I offered them 20% less than they had it marked (the hinge on the lid is broken), but they wouldn't take it. So, for now it still sits in the cabinet and greets me each time we go there. Thanks for sharing it! :-)

try E-Bay. Do not buy unless the pieces inside are complete and there are no broken hinges.

CW posting rules do not allow me to discuss what an item is worth, so write me at alfavil@aol.com. As to condition, it should affect price. I only own three pieces: the egg, the orange enameled and a large barrel, that came with a broken handle, which i had repaired. the small vases are quite difficult to find. I advise you to get an egg with all its glass pieces.
