Your 'Rarus" is circa 1880. It came in Walnut. It was offered with a 30-hour Time and Strike movement, likes yours, as well as a 30-hour Time & Strike with Alarm. I don't see that style of hands illustrated in my reference. If they have been replaced, that would lower the value of this clock to a collector. Everything else looks like it came straight out of the New Haven catalog.
Tran Duy Ly last appraised New Haven Clocks in 2000, his appraisal for the model was $185. I think that would be low even in today's market but if it were mine I definitely wouldn't even of letting it go for one penny less than that.
I know you didn't ask about market value. I just added that fyi. It's a beautiful example, hold on to it and thanks for sharing.
..."wouldn't even of letting it go" above should read "wouldn't even think of letting it go"...I get in a big hurry sometimes...
Hi Bruce99.Thank you for your information. This clock is not for sale.I am searching its history now. There is many question. For exemple. How did it get to Poland before Second World War ? And many others.Regards
Hi Rink,
You're very welcome.
I didn't think that you were looking to sell it. I just included the market value for your information. I think New Haven clocks are well made and undervalued.
This is obviously a well cared for family heirloom in great condition and a very interesting story behind it. Have fun researching some of your family's history through it!
