Cast brass airplane sits atop a shade with an engine cylinder base. The style is similar to trench art pieces of the WW2 era.

The airplane had small propellers at one time that have broken off.

This most likely dates from the 1930s- 40s.

Thanks for looking,

That, my friend, is a neat looking lamp. Looks like a Lockheed 10, so I don't see why the cast plane couldn't be from the 30s or so.

Thanks Doc-- maybe earlier than I thought.

I'll check on the Lockheed 10 and see what I can find out.

Well that plane, and the family of planes that came from it's design were fairly important at the time. I believe the first commercial transatlantic flight was in one, not to mention Amelia Earhart flew one on her (almost) 'round the world trip.

    Pretty good match I think:

Yes, I'd say it is the Lockheed Model 10 Electra.

I am usually not a buyer for the brass cast models-- although the casting usually allows for a better detailed plane than a shell version.

This one was priced right and the shade and cylinder had the look that appealed to me.

scott, It's not a cylinder but it is what goes inside a is the top half of a piston, it has been cut off where the wrist pin goes and the piston rings are not in place but it is a half piston ... Just so you know...;...wink

scott, after looking again I think I'd call this 'Folk Art' because it appears that it's all home built except the plane, the socket, and the switch ! I like it !

Thanks pop-- I don't know why I put cylinder (shape??), I think that it is the piston as well!

The category of trench art puts it with like items.
