WW II Trench Art P-38 Ashtray. All Brass shell casings and bullets. Plane rotates on the heavy shell base. Hard to tell but I think the base is a Japenese shell. Has a 7 and other marks that appear to be in Japanese. Hope the marks show up in pic 2. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Bellin68. I hope it is from a Japanese shell. Makes it more interesting.

It looks like a Japanese shell to me-- the small crossed cannon symbol and characters would be consistent with a Japanese shell.

I never tire of the P-38s!

I must have about 20 of them-- just picked up two more in the last month.

The Japanese shell makes it more desirable.

A Japanese shell base will increase collector interest and usually translates to a higher price (NOT to suggest that you sell yours).

Hey-- I hope that both of you aren't getting attached to trench art. I don't need any competition when acquiring "new" pieces!

no competition here. I got so much stuff now that I can't display I don't hunt often anymore. It has to just fall into my lap and then be a really good buy. I can always enjoy yours

I have seen some modern made trench art planes on ebay.

Post some links on ones you are concerned about and I'd be happy to look at them.

      Ok thanks Scott

MOST of the P-38s that I have seen are WW2 era. I have seen some poorly made jet aircraft-- are those the type you are talking about?

      thats the ones
    19. pickingupbones pickingupbones, 12 years ago
I am not looking to buy any of them I was just wondering because of the poor workmanship
    20. scottvez scottvez, 12 years ago
You'll sometimes see the same sloppy workmanship with a WW2 era plane that has come apart and the modern weld job is not as precise as the WW2 era job.
