Where did you find those two for sale? I'm not sure yet whether this is original or not, but I suspect it is for real.
I found them in a storage locker. In th eback it has a sticker that says:
ISLAND TREASURES
Gallery & Frames Shop
West End, Tortola, BVI
(809) 495-4787
The ones for sale were both in Ebay.
Some points that speak in favor of originality:
- The colors seem to have dulled a bit. Actual reprints likely have more vivid colors from the best preserved originals out there. These maps were colored by hand, so one can expect some differences between individual copies.
- There is foxing on the map too, which is an indication of age.
- The paper texture looks very typical of that from the 1700s.
Thank you so much for your comment! Yes, I can see the colors clearly but their not as vivid as the ones I found on Ebay. I'll check them out, thanks again!
Just as a point I think the sticker is a give away and this was meant as a souvenier and nothing else........
That's my take on it all.
Depends what kind of store "Island Treasures" is. One link says it's an art gallery. Could be all fancy & real stuff in there.. or not. If this is a fake reprint, then why are the colors dulled and the paper foxed?
