I have no idea what this toy is. I suspect it is a child's toy, but have not seen another like it. I can't read the maker's mark, but can see 'Pat 1916' on the bottom. Anybody seen a thing like this or know who the manufacturer might be? Thanks.........MG

PS: I was REALLY surprised to see that there was no category for "TOYS", when I went to post this. Is this some sort of oversight by this website? I mean, vintage toys are a HUGE market.

Wow thats really cool. How tall is it? As far as CW categories go, I think that it is "job security" for the guy that sends out the e-mails, this item has been recategorized. It seems this site was sit up to follow ebay trends, they shoud just adopt ebays categories. Just my 2 cents.

The piece is 12" tall. Not sure what you mean that the item has been 'recategorized'. I have suggested several new categories to them here in the past and they have actually added them. Fishing creels being one that comes to mind. I find this site to be one of the most useful in researching different things that i have and know nothing about. Thanks for the response.

Maybe my eyes are crazy, but I don't see "patent 1916", I see the words "Keystone Toys". Keystone was a major US toy maker from the 1920s to around the '60s. I have a number of Keystone toys.

I LOVE this site. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Thank you, Sefdesign! I now see the "Keystone", but I think it is "Keystone 1916"!! When I clearly saw 1916, I guess I assumed it was 'Patd' before it. Yaaaaaaaa! YOU have solved the puzzle. Thanks so much.........MarkG

It truly might say 1916, except Keystone wasn't founded until the 1920s, as far as I can tell. I could be wrong. I'll keep hunting! But glad my eyes weren't completely deceiving me!

Yes. I have been looking all night and it says Keystone 1920. But no matter how hard I look at the logo etc, I cannot see the word 'toys', but instead see at least '16' at the end of the numbers. Maybe it was before they incorporated or something. I did find ONE thing like it, but no reference to what it was or who made it or when. It was here:/www.antiquetoycollections.info/proddetail.asp?prod=YW05000. It is the only other thing I have seen on a rocker bottom. Its a clown, in case the link doesn't work. Thanks for helping me with this fun endeavor.

You might be right. When I first looked at it, the word "KEYSTONE" jumped out at me, and it looked like TOYS also. But then when I looked again, I couldn't really see it. Sometimes we see what we want to see! The clown in the link certainly looks primitive, where the Indian looks beautifully made. The rest of the toy may just remain a mystery!
