I have this very old primitive bucket and I don't know what it used for, maybe a sap bucket? It is marked on the side and bottom G. MOSMAN. I have search all over the Internet I can't find out any information on this piece. It might say some addition text on the inside of the pail but it is difficult to read. This piece isn't that big and is about 5" tall and 5" in diameter. Any info on use, age, origin, period, value, etc is welcomed.

Thanks a bunch for your help. Do you think the owner put his name on it because he used it or was this box made for someone else?
It's hard to say whether it's a makers mark or an owners mark. I would lean towards a makers mark. It could also be a grain measure but all of those that i have seen had a weight or volume mark indicating how much grain it held. Cheese boxes sometimes have an oily or waxy feel on the inside due to the cheese or wax coating around the cheese.
