Just found this in my trunk...am curious about finding more information on this piece. Is it a pill box or sniffer? It is small in size 1" x 1/2" and almost 1/2" high. All four sides are decorative. Lid does open and is hinged. Snaps shut.

Hi Ballstonalke
This woudl be called a Snuff or Tobacco box as it is silver gilt which was meant to line the box to prevent the Tobacco from being spoiled if it came in contact with the Silver. Nice piece with the 800 being Continental Silver 800 / 1000.
