This trench art vase is made from an early US Navy 3 pounder shell. The shell itself dates from 1903 and there is a possibility that this is in fact a Philippine Insurrection shell.
The style is not typical of WW1, but it is hard to pinpoint it to an earlier era without provenance.
The shell stands about 12" and shows some great handwork.
