I think is a heavy brass incense bowl. I say that because the underside of the lid seems to have smoke residue on but the inside of the bowl is very clean. One of the legs has a screw holding it in place and the tail of the foo dog is missing. I'll have to look because I am sure mum has stashed the broken tail piece away somewhere. There are no stamps or inscriptions anywhere that I can see. It really looks good on her leather topped coffee table. I'd like to know more about this item and the time period in which it was produced.

Hi Ben, looked at all of your interesting postings, Asian brass with marks is a tough hunt and without marks is a very tough hunt. Probably all are from around the middle of the last century, but maybe someone will recognize one and can add more. Hope you find the dog's tail. I looked close and it appears that it's been sweated on before, there seems to be a little tin in the area. good luck, Jim
Hi Ben, thanks again for your comments on my censer. Sweating is a process whereby metal parts are joined by the application of heat and solder. The term is usually heard in the in the plumbing trade, but is also appropriate in manufacturing or repair other than plumbing. Is there not a little half circle of white metal on the right side if the break? Also looks like some following the crack face. Regards, Jim
