I bought these at a Seattle garage sale for two bucks, I think. I love that they are so little and beautifully painted, gilded and embellished. The mark on the bottom says," japan, IE&C Co., Japan", "Hand Painted" is also written on the Sugar Bowl, but it may have faded on the other. Does anyone have a clue?? Hi Vet, as I guess you realize, I read your other comment before this one, and yes, I did find it, under"Hand Painted/Japan, Sundry" #688 They say IE&C Co. But also write "mark unknown", early to mid century. I am sure it is the I E Co., well that is my fact free opinion. The mark you refer to here "ICE & E Co" was used by an independent English company in the late 19th and early 20th century who used to travel to Japan and source only the finest hand painted wares from top Japanese kilns. They then exported them from Japan to England for the English market who couldn't get enough of Japanese Nippon ceramics. In order to keep the look and feel of Nippon wares, they used their own company name - IC & E within a green wreath, exactly the same as Nippon wares. The items they had produced are actually quite rare and a good area to begin collecting.

I just came across your page. I inherited a teacup and four saucers from this EXACT collection. I have never seen anyone else that had it. My great-grandparents bought this in Ireland and brought it to America. They had the whole tea set at one point and the other pieces were destroyed throughout the years. Have you ever found out more information about this?
