I picked up this wonderful old flower vase and I am trying to identify the maker and it's age and a value. It has a wide mouth (almost 3 3/4" in diameter) and it stands about 5" high. It has a gorgeous mottled glaze in shades of browns, almost a dark moss green, and a bit of black. It is also glazed on the inside. It appears from the bottom that the clay body is a dark red brown.
The glaze looks a lot like the Red Wing Pottery NOKOMIS art pottery line
but I haven't found the 222 shape number listed anywhere for Red Wing. It is marked with the initials DW, and has the number 222 underfoot.

Nice piece of pottery. But I checked with our Art Pottery Experts at the Red Wing Collectors Society to see if it is Red Wing. Steve and Rose Splittgerber said it is not a Red Wing Shape.
I also heard back from a couple of places who confirmed that it isn't Redwing. I keep hoping someone may recognize the shape or the initials DW on the bottom. I'm guessing it is probably teens or late 1920's, but thus far no one has given me a time line. Thank you so much for your response.
Hmm, if you got it regionally where you live, the local historical society might be able to assist you. Here in Red Wing, MN we had two small potteries that were opened before the large Red Wing Stoneware, Minnesota Stoneware, North Star, Red Wing Sewer Pipe, and Red Wing Terra Cotta Works. They might have a record in the area of regional pottery. Good luck!
