Remember when I said I wished I had bought the War Merit Medal when I got the two other crosses? Well I happened to run into the guy who bought the whole lot of the military items from the person I originally bought the two KVKIIs from. What a coincidence! So I was finally able to kill the regret and buy the things I wished I had the first time around. Got things at a good price too, can't complain.
Since so many War Merit Medals were being awarded by 1940, the respect for it was fading. The War Merit Medal was introduced to keep the medals name untarnished. Unlike the KVK without swords, it was awarded on a strictly civilian basis, mostly for exceptional workers.
