This is a old Tsimshian basket I found on Ebay. It is 5 inches in diameter and about 4 inches in height if you count the knob top on it. It was made using tiny strips of Red Cedar, with Bear Grass used for the outside "false embroidery" decoration. What really drew me to it was the blue/green weave inside that cannot be seen from the outside at all. This is the first I have seen in a very long time with the blue/green unless you count the ones in museums. They are not made this way anymore, not for a very long time. This one has no splits in the weave anywhere which surprised me as it happens alot with these oldies. The top is much darker than the rest, it has alot of patina and dirt on it and I plan to keep it like that. Most of these old baskets lost the tops that went with them as they usually ended up splitting and breaking at the knob. I am very happy to have this complete Tsimshian basket, and more happy that it has the blue/green color inside. It is very old and very beautiful. Enjoy the pics!
