the last pict. is a semaphore lamp, i still have one of these but sold nine of them(various makes) picts. 2&3 are the elect. relays used to operate the lamp, now pict 1 are my prized items lets play "what is it" .

old batteries
you are correct sir!! there Edison (esco) acid jar batteries, pat. 1908 used to power some semaphore lamps. they came in two sizes (that i know of). You just dont see many of the complete batterys, ive seen several of the white porcelainized clay lids. There doesnt seem to be much interest in these batterys, but i sure likem.
You gotta get up pretty early to get by me and packrat
