This carving came from a Saturday morning market a year ago. It was at the bottom of a box of goods.
The carving has great tension: are the cats at play or are they about to erupt? I've tried to show some of the power of the carving in my photos.
I believe the wood is ebony or "Pangge Baya".
If you have any suggestions about where this might have been made I'd appreciate your feedback.

Hey Kevin,
Here, kitty, kitty!
Before I go to bed each night I do a drawing of one of my kitties. It would be nice to capture ( in my work) the playful,( or not so playful:), mood that your carving has captured.
The composition of this piece will be an inspiration for me.
Thanks!
for all of the inspiration that you are.

I really love this! I have an ebony cribbage board with similar colors black to reddish brown. My stepfather got in Navy, he was Admiral Nimitz's Dr. It has I believe now a signature in Hindi writing on it. There were some great ebony wood carvers in India. Also Africa too. Maybe they are in love! I know dogie style! Maybe this is kitty style! haha Also I read that ebony is so heavy it is about the only wood that will not float. It is special!
Many thanks Lilliflunew and nldionne too!
