Kusunoki Masashige (1294 - 1336) was a 14th century samurai who fought for Emperor Go-Diago in his attempt to wrest rulership of Japan away from the Kamakura shogunate and is remembered as the ideal of samurai loyalty. This is a faithful representation of a larger than lifesize statue of Kusunoki Masashige outside Tokyo's Imperial Palace. Made of bronzed iron in three pieces (horse, rider, sword) on a 4 ½” thick black wood base, 17” x 15” x 6”.
