THIS IS ONE OF TWO BASKETS I BOUGHT WITH THE INFORMATION THAT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT IS TRUE NATIVE AMERICAN BASKET. I SENT PICTURES TO A MUSEUM AND THEY STILL COULDN'T TELL ME FOR SURE...NOTHING FINAL ON THE DETERMIN FOR ME. WOULD ANYONE BE ABLE TO POSITIVELY TELL ME WHICH NATIVE AMERICAN GROUP COULD HAVE MADE THIS? I HAVE THE OTHER ONE I WILL POST LATER, BUT IT IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT BUT LIDED ALSO. THIS ONE IS ABOUT 4" TAL LID IS 4" ACROSS WIDEST IN MIDDLE 6" ACROSS.SLIGHTLY GREEN INSIDE AS THE LIGHT HASN'T LIGHTENED THAT UP YET. THE BOTTOM HAS SAME PATTERN AS LID HAS. IT IS A VERY TIGHT METICULIOUS JOB. NO LOSE ENDS ANYWHERE AND PERFECT SHAPE. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO POST ON THIS SITE. DOTTIE

It could be Papago tribe, or Seminole Tribe. Both use the "wheat stitch" as used in this basket.

I am going to go with Papago, seeing as both the start in the basket and the lid are the done with the 4 way start. That is usual in Papago basketry.

FROM THE ONE I SAW ONLINE IT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE IT, BUT IT IS HARD TO BE ABLE TO SAY SOMETHING IS NATIVE AMERICAN AND ALSO SELL AS SUCH WITHOUT KNOWING FOR SURE. I WANTED TO KNOW FOR MY OWN SAKE. THANK YOU FOR THAT INFORMATION. I FELT I WAS RIGHT BUT WANTED TO SEE IF SOMEONE ELSE AGREED WITH ME.
