My great aunt told me to take extra care with this piece as it would be very difficult to replace. If she told me anything about it, I don't remember. I would love to know the maker and technique. The colors are glazed or at least glaze covered. I is pure white inside and on the bottom. You can see some white between the swirls. It stands 5" tall and ~5" diameter plus handle. I hope someone can help me identify this pitcher. Thanks.............
Hi! It is imitating a potting technique called "agate ware". The real pieces are solid agate. This technique is done by mixing clays of different colours and folding them to create the marbled look. The technique of "marbling" is normally associated with paper, book covers and liners.
But if that were the case, wouldn't the inside look marbled also?

Thanks vetraio50 and stefdesign for your comments, I appreciate your time and knowledge. Since it is not stamped on the bottom, can it be determinned where it was made from the shape of the pitcher? Many of my family worked in the pottery business around Grafton, WV to the East Liverpool, OH area. I am sure they would not have had the money to purchase the piece. Is it possible it came from this part of the country? Thanks................
I've done a bit of hunting around, and I think your pitcher might also be the so-called "Roadside Pottery". Sometimes it's called Ozark Roadside Pottery, sometimes just Roadside Pottery. You can do a Google search and see if you can find some similar decorations and shape. It's definitely a lot more colorful than most roadside pieces I've seen, but the color is definitely glazes/paint, rather than clay.

Thanks Stefdesign. I looked at the link you sent and although the patterns are similar, my piece seems to be a lot more delicate than those shown. While on ebay, i followed a link for swirl pottery and found many agate type swirls and saw a couple Morton swirls. These also seemed very similar but all the Mortons carried the swirl on the bottom of the piece. Thanks again..................
