I had 2 step dads both passed away . This man was a family friend and my Moms boyfriend in 7th grade . They broke up and she married my dad . They had a wonderful long marriage and when he passed away and both her and my step dad were widowed , they married he died suddenly in first year of marriage from a brain tumor . Anyway he was very good to me and lived a few blocks down the street . He gave me this along with a doll that was in the box . I was stupid and sold the metals years ago . He fought in germany in WWII and suffered PTSD after having to kill and enemy and after seeing some bad scenes in camps . He was in the 60th Infantry and I am not sure of his status on discharge what rank he was .This suit is made of heavy wool . I will be posting a few other things that were in this box . He sent this box home to his Mother . Shipping was 50.00 ! In 1942 appx ! Wow .

The 60th Infantry, 9th Division was a pretty active unit. North Africa, Sicily and then France (Normandy) and Germany. They also fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

It is nice that you have this.

Here is a link to his enlistment records:

Interestingly, it shows another man with the SAME service number! I have never seen that before.

Also, it shows his enlistment date in 1946-- maybe a reenlistment?

Is there a patch on the right shoulder of the jacket as well?

  13. Manikin Manikin, 3 years ago
Yes there is a patch on other sleeve Scott ? How can 2 men have same number ! that is bizarre . Thanks for link. Harold may have served 2 times my memory has to go back over 20 years to when he died and I am trying to recall it all but he did not like talking about War . In fact he rarely ventured out of house after his return .

In the WW2 days of paper records and files, it probably happened more often than the Army would have liked, but this is the first time that I have ever seen it show up on records!

  15. Manikin Manikin, 3 years ago
I guess it's good he made it back or wrong person may have notified having same number Scott . Seems like a pretty big error to me ?
  16. scottvez scottvez, 3 years ago
Do you have any copies of his discharge paperwork?

  17. Manikin Manikin, 3 years ago
I may have had it but not sure what I may have done with it , It was not in box but I believe in My Moms things when she passed away . I will look for it . I know where my real dads discharge papers from Navy are and they made a mistake on his big time :-) The dates were wrong on enlistment papers . I will look for them today
