British WW11 Wardens helmet, a Warden in simple terms acted as security, making sure no lights were showing in houses at night, assisting in rescue, guiding people to shelter etc. This one has a nice personal touch in that the W was usually painted, however this guy has made his own W out of brass and fixed it to the front of the helmet. Not regulation, but nicely hand made, (trench art?) mmm, maybe not. Last photo also shows how the helmet strap was sprung.
