Knowone's really sure if Hartford made these knives or they were farmed out to other factories in the area, but they were sold through Marshall Wells Hardware Co. A bit of mystery surrounding this brand but mystery also in trying to read this stamp on the tang! This knife has been used so much that it has pitting or patina all over the blades, so much that you can't read the tang at all. I could only make out Cutlery and Co. on the main blade and couldn't figure out anything about the pen blade's tang stamp until a friend suggested he might know, and know he did. He had a knife marked the same way on the stamp and it was,,,, you guessed it Hartford Cutlery Co. Bare End Swell Center Jack in celluloid, made from 1914 to 1939.
