OK so this one is really weird, those of you who have been following the helmets I have been posting on here will remember that I mentioned some were made out of leather, so here is a rare British WW11 leather helmet, when Materials were scarce they made helmets out of cow hide, better than no head protection at all I suppose!

They still make fire helmets out of leather here in the States, I guess leather isn't too bad when it come to debris. I just hope no one expected it to stop bullets! very nice!

Actually you won't find any helmet of that era that would stop bullets.

Helmets were made to lower the risk of fragmentation or shrapnel injuries. The Kevlar (1980s) was the first US Army wide issue helmet that offered SOME ballistic protection.
