This item was aquired from my fiancees grandmother's estate. The story was that her Grandma's Uncle brought it back from the orient during WWI while he was serving in the military. As far as we can see there are no markings on it. It isnt in the greatest shape. It has a music box in it, unsure of the song it plays, but sounds to be a song from the orint as well. Hoping someone can help me identify this.

I have one just like this, in a different style. If you google images 'vintage japanese music box', you'll find many just like yours. I don't recall finding the maker while I was researching mine, but you'll see there are many on etsy and they're not valuable. They're usually listed as 1940's-1950's. The music is lovely, though, isn't it? :)
agree with kindy and AR8jason on time period -- the market can always change -- if it is special to you place it in a safe place and remember the memories -- just enjoy it for what it is
