I was told when I bought this forever ago at a garage sale, that it was a star to put in the window if you have someone in the service overseas. The only ones I can find are the blue stars. I absolutely love this, just feels like it has a history. I tried looking up Jewish stars, that did not get me any answers. It just occurred to me that I should post it, at least that way it can be shared.
Is it made of fabric? really interesting piece!
Hi Hunter, I was thinking last night it might not be obvious, yes it is, the star seems to be hand sewn. The fabric underneath the star is vary coarsely woven. It came to me in the small wood frame it is in, with glass. The frame was falling apart, the top piece is missing. I still have it but always forget where I put it.
I can't find anything about it either - so curious...
It doesn't look like a service star to me.
It may be someone's homemade version of a service star or just something of significance saved for any of hundreds of other reasons.
It sure is thought provoking-- too bad nothing was written on the backing!

The two pieces in this frame almost remind of parts for old quilts. Maybe to remember an event or an object.

walksoftly, that is a great site that you referenced.
I am a quilter and the star fabric is a little thinner than would normally be used for quilting, although it is a standard quilt design. I so appreciate all of your comments and help. There is something about this piece that really touches me.
The cloth may have had personal significance to the person who made it, could it have been material that someone might have saved from a loved one?
