WW1 German binoculars brought back from the trenches on the Western Front, by my Grandad, who sadly died before I ever met him. I will have to do some research to find out more about him. The family do know that he was a medic, and although not a qualified doctor he did have a lot of surgical instruments which he carried, and would go into no mans land to assist the wounded. He did not speak much about the war, and afterwards joined the Police. He did explain to the family that he had found out that a German sniper had been hit in no mans land. My Grandad had gone out to look for the wounded sniper, found him and brought him back to the British trenches. As a thank you, the German soldier asked him to take the binoculars, rather than let anyone else take them. Even after an obvious heavy use, they still work fine, and there is still the original cleaning cloth inside, cut from a field grey German uniform, not sure if from a shirt, or tunic.

Thanks miKKoChristmas11 and ThriftyGypsy, I agree, it is nice in this day and age to find a non-commercial collectors site, where fellow collectors can showcase their collections, (and there is some fantastic stuff displayed here), even better they can recount personal and family stories which brings history to life, to be remembered and passed on to the younger generation.
