Greatsnowy…

I've had my eye out for one of these for awhile now and my diligence was finally rewarded.

This pattern is shown in the book Riedel - 10 Generationen Glasmacher and dates from the turn of the last century.

this appears to have 5 layers green, blue, red, clear and a yellow. the matt vs glossy treatment makes it appear to have even more.

the condition of this piece confuses me a little. I believe this is a proper lamp that has lost it's works. But it could just be a vase that has been drilled.

Certain aspects of the rim make me tend to believe it was meant to be a small lamp though. the shape of the neck looks like a lamp shade it has been ground but not polished. It also has a small chip. there are a couple possibilities that could explain this, like very bad restoration job.. but there is still a small chip there and why would you go to the trouble of grinding it down and not polishing Especially if you had already decided to turn it into a lamp? If it had damage there it would be covered by the equipment..
that just wouldn't make any sense.

So that makes me tend to believe it was never polished at the factory because they had intended on covering it with equipment.

Either way, it's still a treat to have on the shelf. The color on this thing is great in the light.
