I bought this at a shrine sale in Japan about 17 years ago. I had to carry this thing through Tokyo in my backpack for the afternoon to get it home. It weighs 15-20 pounds but it was well worth it. This is my favorite piece that I own. It is cast iron measuring 12 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 5". The ball is a separate piece.There are no identifying markers on it. Does anyone know how can I tell how old it may be?Thanks.
I just found this website and I think it is absolutely awesome. I see so many beautiful pieces that people post and everyone here seems to be very helpful when they can. I will be visiting quiet often!!

I love me some Foo too;}
This is really lovely.
I will tell you that in the 70s they repro'd the heck out of anything Asian. It was a big push and flooded the market. The same has been done with bronzes, blown glass (TJ Maxx) etc. I have no idea if this is old or not, but I would guess, repeat guess, it is from the 70s.
Great 'stach too! I should post my Foos...
I know nothing about asian art but can say, by what you said, that it at least 17 yrs old. I'm the wild card so don't take me seriously. I do like it a lot.
