This helmet was made "around" ww2 By Cairns & Brothers with WAR time shortages in various things shortcuts were made to save resources and time and effort... The "Crown" (head part)was made of 8 pieces of leather similar to "normal" but sewing it this way increased curing time, making it faster to produce these....at a cheeper Price, a "normal" Ribbed Crown which is all verticle seems needed to be dryed ON a Form longer to keep a shape, long term this one didnt hold up as well, sorta mooshed down more, so once the war was over This Style went in the Can.. Given the Front piece I would say Revere Mass Ladder 2, (the front piece was red with some blackening sooty Yuck) ofcourse you know this if your a jake..haha, lets face it, Its a LOT nicer then the worst style cairns which was real cheep (called the "War Baby" it was 4 pieces which was really Lame..those I've seen all under 80 bucks , this helmet. which is at least still sorta cool..I would say 150 maybe more if youget the right buyer you know? they pop up sometimes on ebay
Actually Just after WW2 and Just after the Warbaby....I learned a Bit at > http://www.gagey.id.au/cairns_history.htm who visited cairns President in 1989 and learned a lotta good stuff
