This is another Native Basket from my dad's estate. This one looks pretty old and it measures about 10" wide. The weave is very tight but I have no clue where this basket is from. Please help me out and also post your comments about it (like or dislike). thanks!

I've seen these here in Australia! In fact I have one on my desk beside me. I keep spare change in it. We think it was made in New Guinea. North of Australia. They are called Buka-ware. Buka is an island north of Bougainville. These island are between the Solomon Islands and mainland Papua New Guinea.
Did he serve in the Pacific Islands?
Mine has a beautifully fitted lid, with a raised applied section. The finial is really nice as well. It is smaller, only 7 inches across.
I recently sold a large hat-box from the same area.
