This is a beautiful old book, in spite of the fact that someone fortified the spine with tape at some point. The cover is a tooled leather...it almost looks like alligator or crocodile scales. The book has some nice illustrations. Publisher: Lippincott. Copyright:1888. Can someone help me with the value of this item?

You know, this site is an awesome place to share and show off stuff, and find out more information about things we have that we don't know what they are, how old they might be, or other details. But it's really not a forum for appraisals or values, because for the most part, we are hobbyists, not professional appraisers. Especially with historic documents and art, you need to have your books, maps, letters etc looked at by a professional. I'm sure there might be collectors here who can help you with historical background or even comment on something's rarity. But I do think it's a bit much to ask for a value on all your items.
That said, you have some wonderful things to share. I'm sure the historians here might be green with envy at some of your marvelous collections.
You're right - magnificent cover!
