Got these two mint-condition GRiD Compass Laptops 1101 & 1139. They were given to me as trash but fortunately I knew immediatly how important and rare these machines are. They came out of the box completely new and turned on flawlessly. Unfortunately the 1139 is missing some software, the OS starts up but I cannot open any programs, maybe i'm just using it wrong? The 1101 is easy to operate and includes all of the original programs but it looks like it can't do much(what would you expect from the first of it's kind?). AFAIK, the 1101 was the first commercial laptop with the folding screen. The manuals came out of the bag completely preserved, there is no yellowing or anything.
The most interesting thing about these machines is that they used Bubble Memory and from what I can gather, all 6 bubble memory chips in these machines can fetch $1000 a piece from collectors, probably even more back then when these machines cost $8,000.
I wish to know more about these machines and hopefully someone here does know more.
