There are some markings on the blade, but no "made in" or similar markings. Wondering if someone could help with age/possible history of knife, etc. Thanks.

This is a Kukhri (there are a few different spellings for this) Kukhri are mostly associated with the Gurkha warriors of Nepal, but the weapon is also used in parts of India. While your talwar was a slashing weapon, the kukhri is a chopping weapon, heavier towards the front to add to the force of the blow, and it is also used as a camp tool. According to some sources, including E. Jaiwant Paul, who’s written a book on the subject, the funny little notched part at the base of the blade is supposed to represent female genitalia, which is supposed to make the weapon more effective. Handles are frequently made of wood or horn, as it looks like yours is. Your scabbard is also traditional, although they often have an additional strip of leather around it that fastens to a waistband. Blades on working kukhri are not usually decorated or highly polished or plated and I suspect yours was more recently made and more for decoration.
