Now this is what I call a toby jug.
Here's what to notice :-
The quality of the potting, no painted on face here
The colouring, just look at the colour of his breeches, have you ever seen such a colour green as that ?
And his shoes, notice haw they overlap the base, if you turn him upside down, he has hollow legs.
The hands, just look at his right hand, you can see his fingernails. And the gap in between the pot and the hand.
The base, nice decoration, no horizontal line here.
His waistcoat, that yellow id superb, and with the black dots.
The pot he's holding, complete with a spout, and a foaming head to his beer. Notice the decoration, sometimes these are transfers. The more expensive have words on such as "wooden walls" and so forth.
As far as value is concerned, bought from Sotherbys about 5 years ago fo about £600
His shoes are good, there is an old wives tale about buckles being Georgian, laces are Victorian, but it's just that, an old wives tale.
