Noah Webster known for dictionaries also authored spelling books. The first was the Blue Back Speller then the American Speller and in 1880 The Elementary Speller with an improvement on the American Speller. He changed spelling of words to make it easier to learn and pronounce. This book is in great condition and I like most the little sentenances using the words, a lot of them involves family and farm life. There is a history lesson in these.Copyright date is 1880 and 1908. Thanks and enjoy

I'm so jealous! I just posted my own spelling books, and none of mine are as old or cool as yours!
Hey steph thanks for looking. I just looked at yours, very nice. I need to use mine. the older I get the worse I spell. Were you a teacher?
No, not a teacher. But collecting vintage school books is my passion. (Although I prefer books from the '30s to the '60s, especially the '40s and '50s). I have around 500 books. Sometimes I post them here!
Thanks steph I'll keep up with your site. I like books also but don't have many
I was told back in the late '50's how rare & valuable the elusive "Blue Back Speller" was I kept looking for 1. This is the 1st time I've even seen a pic. of one! Thanks. Now I know what I spent so much time looking for!
