Obscurities
(40 items)
I had these for a very long time before I realized what they actually were. They were in a box with a wide variety of other photographic items I bought at a yard sale decades ago. After realizing what I thought I had, I sent one of the set of 6 images to the Eastman house for authentication. It was found that they were original period photos printed from negatives. The first two, "Gang by Fireside" and "Digging out the Condor Plane" are published in Byrd's book about his second expedition.

Nice photos. I am spending the day scanning 5 photos from the same expedition. The photos I have are publicity photo from my grandfather’s knitwear company. My grandfather’s company sponsored the second expedition and supplied knit hats like the one seen in the “gang by the fire” photo. Each of my photos has a stamp on the back from the Byrd expedition, a description of the people, and what is going on in the photo. I also have a thank you letter from the supply officer and his hat.
