Presentation of 120 Squadron Standard, by Her Majesty The Queen. My dads Royal Air Force Squadron was awarded this standard for for outstanding operations in the north atlantic, anti submarine patrols and convoy escort, British and Canadian/American. My dad was a gunner in Liberators during this time, he was promoted, later left the Squadron and then returned. He organised this presentation and kept the event programme, he was also given the presentation letter from the Queen as thanks for organising the event. He went on to "invent" a search and rescue system to locate persons in need of rescue at sea which was used until the invention of GPS. The RAF were grateful for this system and as a reward paid him seven shillings and sixpence, not sure how much that is in todays money, but nice to think he cut down rescue times for those in trouble at sea.
