This was left in my garage when I moved into my house (along with a trunk that I also posted) and I was wondering if it is something that is homemade or is actually an antique. I could not find any labels or markings on it at all. I did notice on the inside of the top that it is stained and looks like it has some kind of clearcoat on it. The rest of it is pretty rough. It has been wet and the outside really needs to be re-finished. I think it would make a nice blanket chest. I was thinking I could line it with cedar. It also has a storage compartment at the bottom with a lid, not a drawer. If anyone knows anything about it I would appreciate any information on it. I plan on re-finishing it and giving it to my daughter. I think it could turn out nice. Thanks for any help.

Regardless of whether it is homemade or not it is a unique nice piece. In that it isn't marked you might be able to date it from the hardware. Also if the hinges aren't gained in or how well they are it would tend to indicate homemade. If you could find or make some ship lap or T&G 1/2" cedar it would make a great gift for your daughter.
Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for the reply fhrjr2, I appreciate it. And like you said it doesn't matter if it is homemade or not, if I can get it into good shape, I know my daughter will appreciate it. I was just curious if anyone had seen one like it before, but I do believe it is homemade. Thanks again!
