This medaillon is made of Vulcanite and such jewelry was often used as mourning jewelry. But in our modern times it is just beautiful to wear it like it is. What I admire on this medaillon is the nice combination between the Vulcanite medaillon and the beautiful little jet beads of the chain. Also two kinds of dark, that of Vulcanite (brownish black) and the very deep black of the jet beads. Such a jewel could also perfectly be worn on a velvet ribbon.
