Found grandma's old Singer in my parents garage, where it's been for some twenty years plus. I guess a collector might want this machine, but it will need work to restore it to it's original condition. I'd love to find a home for it, instead of letting the scrap-man take it to the junkyard. It must be worth something to someone.

Please do not send that machine to the scrap yard . There are plenty of collectors that would love to have that machine . I would love to have it . Where are you located ?

Darn : To far away for me to come see it . However there are collectores just about everywhere . Have you tryed putting an add in the paper ? I also belong to a Sewing machine group on the internet . I think they have a section where you can advertise Sewing machines for sale . The stie is called wefixit -- sewing machine shade tree mechinists . I know there are collectores in just about every state . I know someone near you would love to have that machine . It looks to be in good condition .

I also have a Singer Sphinx with all original: instruction manual dated July 18, 1905, original instruction manual for attachments, original "puzzle box" with all attachments, original tape measure, cabinet in amazing good condition, only one piece broke off on the middle pull out drawer (have the piece) - beautiful machine just can't find out true value ...any ideas on how to research would be greatly appreciated!
    thx, Sandy

I have the same machine that used to belong to my grand mother and I am trying to price it now. Actually I just found out that one of my cousins had taken it after my mothers death, but has vowed that it was mine.

To all of you that have posted about sewing machines you would like to sell or know the value on . The value all depends on the condition of the machine and the cabinet . Also the year it was made . The best way for any of you to find out the value is to look at web sites that sell machines . Try E-Bay . They however are not always a good source for information on value . Some really inflate the prices they are asking for an item . There are many other web sites you can go to . One is Vintage Singers , another is wefixit , shade tree mechanics . There are others , but I can not remember the names right now . Also if you really want to sell them to someone that will take good care of them put them on your local craigslist . There are collectors out there looking for such machines . All you have to do is get the word out .

The Singer Sewing Company website actually has listings of the groups of serial numbers so you you can actually find out the manufacturing date and place of your machine. You can also find/download or purchase the operational manual there. Very cool! I just found a little 1901 model 27 Sphinx Singer that is lovely.

I have a vintage Singer treadle sewing machine that I got from my grandmother-in-law. It is one of my most treasured posessions. I used to stop at her house after school and do chores for Grandmom. Sometimes I would clean but often she would ask me to sew something. I made her new curtains for her sun room on that same treddle. She was so appreciative and proud. I plan to pass down in my family the stories and the old Singer to the grandaughter who I think will most appreciate it. I do however plan to have the top surface of the cabinet restored as the venereed wood has started to separate in a few places. I will also do some sewing projects with my grand daughter so she will have her own memories attached to that same old Singer. It's priceless to me and hopefully it'll be priceless to her too.
