    Hello All,
I just picked this up a day ago, and got pretty excited about it.
It's Japanese red lacquer ( I think ) with a heavily carved Carp design.
Judging by the type of wear, I believe it's quite old,....just how old I don't know,....any guesses?
It's a bit over 10 1/8 inches in diameter, and has an old Takito, Ogawa & Co sticker on the bottom.
It may be a wee bit scary, but I think it's just beautiful,...I hope someone out there agrees with me:)

I love the "Scary Fish Box". Looks more like a Pirana than the Carp around here.
I might have to think twice about swimming in Japan now.

      Hi Budek

The item you have is referred to as Cinnabar ware. This is a process of building up thousands of layers of lacquer, then carving back the surface with the design or motif you require. This is definitely Cinnabar - no doubt about it
