Another thrift store find was this pepper grinder that came home from the Salvo's ten years ago. As yet I have no other details about this grinder except that it has the Peugeot mechanism. There are some features about it that suggest that it is a retro/vintage Peugeot design. I can see no reference to it on the Peugeot sites in the US nor in France.
Perhaps someone will recognise it?
I like the two-tone wooden Body and Head of the Mill. The shape is different to the classic shapes of mills (Chateauneuf, Fidji etc) that are been produced by Peugeot. That brushed metal nut above the Mill Head is cute too! When it is removed it provides access to the reservoir; it is also used to adjust the grind on these machines.
The mechanism is the best I have owned. It really is the most satisfactory for doing this job. The mechanism itself was invented in 1874 and remains as the market standard. It is also used by many other manufacturers of wooden bodies. There are fabulous Dansk design teak grinders with these mechanisms: some really collectible grinders were designed for Dansk by Gunnar Cyren & Jens Harald Quistgaard in Siamese teak.
This one reminds me of my Kokeshi dolls and I see Vico Magistretti's Atollo lamp there too! It's a bit Memphis?
