Many innovative ideas produced barbed wire designs like this one.

Patented by Solomon F. Mouck of Denver, Colorado on October 17, 1893, patent # 507,088.

During the 1880's humane and highly visible barbed wire became highly desirable. It appears this design came too late to make an impact on the market. Very little has been recovered making it a rare find. The first example is 1/2" x 1 1/4". The second 1" x 2". A third version utilizing a flat ribbon wire has been found. Unfortunately I don't have one in my collection. It is on my wish list.
