MIKASA SHAPE-DESIGNED BY MICHAEL LAX C.1960'S,
so i ve left the house at 11:45 am ,to spend the whole day outside and do things it was tooooo beautiful to stay inside . so i hit the gym and then all of the thrift stores and found this mikasa vase , and to be honest i never bought mikasa of any kind and this will be first and last piece as well . and the only reason why i bought is because it was totally different and it is some what interesting for being a mid century modern as well . the other reason why i bought this is because Micheal Lax had designed this as well . so i paid 75 cents for this not soooooooooo bad for this vase:) here is a little brief information on Michael Lax......................
Michael Lax, an industrial designer best known for the craftsman-like appreciation for texture and color that he brought to such household icons of the 1960's as the Copco teakettle with the bent teak handle or the rippling curve of his first glassware for Mikasa. His shapes encouraged both a visual and a tactile appreciation for shape. Though he turned to sculpture in midlife, Mr. Lax always had a serious, hands-on approach to his industrial design work. this piece does work very well others :)

Copco?
My favourite Dutch Oven is one of Michael Lax's designs.
I know he was American and designed enamel ware for a Copco a Danish/American company (?). It was an alternative to the French cast iron pots in the sixties. He also designed for Dansk, Rosenthal, Salton, Dunbar Glass, andMetaal.
His obituary in the New York Times said in 1999:
Mr. Lax was born on Nov. 8, 1929, in New York. He graduated in 1947 from the New York School of Music and Art and in 1951 from Alfred University in New York, where he honed his skills in modern ceramics techniques. It was there that he met Rosemary Raymond, whom he married in 1950. He died in 1999, May 28.
